　DY（05/15/12付）より英語表現を拾います。claimですが，見たことのある感じでモヤモヤしました。絶対にこの用法はであったことがあると思ったからです。そんな経験はあるのではないでしょうか。

Smoke likely claimed most fire victims

　辞書を引いてみると，やはりマーカーが打たれており，例文まで追加して書いてありました。

　意味は，「（事故・病気などが）（人命）を奪う」です（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』学研）。やはり以前に調べた単語で，反省したひとときでした。せっかくなのでLDOCEの定義も載せましょう。

　if a war, accident etc claims lives, people die because of it

手書きで例文まで追加してありました。写真は切れてしまっていますが，目的語にvictimをとっています。victimと共起することが多いのではないかと思います。二度と忘れないよう，心に刻んでおきたいと思います。
