　iPhone 4Sに関する記事です。iPhone 4Sの特徴であるSiriとはどのようなものでしょう。今回はCNN（10/10/11）にあった，Siriの性能とその素晴らしさについて述べられた記事から英語表現を拾います。

You'll receive a courteous reply.

　今回取り上げるのは，obsoleteです。obsoleteは「すたれた，時代遅れの」といった意味ですが（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』学研），out-of-dateやold-fashionedとはどのような違いがあるのでしょうか。LDOCEよりそれぞれの語義を引用します。

・obsolete
　no longer useful, because something newer and better has been invented

・out-of-date
　if information is out-of-date, it is not recent and may no longer be correct

・old-fashioned
　not considered to be modern or fashionable any more-used about styles of clothed, furniture etc, or about words and ideas

　obsoleteはbecause something newer and better has been inventedとあるので，主に機械類が時代遅れになる場合に用いられます。また，out-of-dateは情報が古いために間違っているという意味で，old-fashionedはfashionからも推測できるように，衣服や家具に使われます。今回はiPhone4よりも優れたiPhone 4Sが登場したことで，今後iPhone4が時代遅れのものとなるだろうという意味なので，obsoleteというword choiceがなされていると言えます。
