　bandwidth-hoggingとは何でしょうか。手持ちにある辞書にはこの語は載っていませんでした。なので，分解して考えてみたいと思います。
　bandwidthは「（周波数）帯域幅」，hoggingはhog（v）の-ing形なので，「むさぼる，やたら自分のものにする，独り占めする」という意味です（『リーダーズ英和辞典』研究社）。これらがハイフンでつながれているので，bandwidth-hoggingで１つの形容詞と考えることができます。本文では，the number of bandwidth-hogging smartphones and tablets increasesとあることから，スマホやタブレットがネット回線を独占しているといったことを言いたいのだと考えられます。したがって，このbandwidth-hoggingは「むやみに回線を食う」といった意味だといえます。
